California's North Coast -- Day 5

You wanted to see some monster trees, so here they are!

On Wednesday we drove to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, home to some of the biggest living things on the planet.  Immense doesn't begin to describe them, nor do any photographs without a scale of reference.

What looks like simply regular trees in photos can only be accurately judged when something familiar is included next to them -- like my Dad and sister below.

The "close-up" shows just how freakishly big that trunk is... and it reaches up some 300+ feet above them.

Cindy and me in front of the same tree.

Another scale photo -- find Cindy, Kate and the dog to determine the size of the grove they're in.

I could easily have posted a hundred photos of these Redwood giants, but back at home most of them just don't look very good without something or someone in the frame to provide the sense of scale.  So I just posted those that were the most visually interesting or had aspects to them that I really liked.

Once we finished up there, we headed back into Crescent City to do more exploring up the coast.

I always knew that "Lost"was actually a documentary -- and here's the hatch to prove it.

The ridge of mountains off in the distance represents the California-Oregon border.
