Maine Trip: Vermont

I saw the Shelburne Museum on our way into Burlington and recognized it as something I'd noticed when I was looking at stuff online before our trip. So we stopped on Thursday on our way out of town. This was the first time that I realized that spring might not be the best time to go north - they didn't open for the season until a few days after we left!

From there, we went to Camels Hump State Park. The weather was a little iffy, but we decided that if the rain held out, we'd hike for a bit, then go on our way. This picture gives you a sense of what things looked like for us. Though the sun came out for a little while, we also got sprinkled on as we hurried back to the car after our hike.


We were again bitten by the "too early for the north" thing. As
Tony explained, the summit trail for Camels Hump was closed until the end of the month to let things dry out (apparently, their springs are much wetter than ours).

The weather further north was surprisingly cooler. While I was expecting it to be a little cooler, we'd been having weather in the mid- to upper-80s (and sunny) shortly before we left. The weather in the New England and New York was much cooler (in the 50s and 60s) and cloudy. It was a bit of a shock to our systems. You can see Tony shivering in this picture (although he wasn't the only one who got cold on this stop).
