As you can see from all the posts and photos I've been sharing for the past week or so, we recently spent an extended visit with my Dad and sister, Kate, along with her dog, Maggie.
The holidays are very special for me and I always miss my family, especially given that they're spread to the far ends of the continent -- my Mom is in Florida and the rest of the family is on the west coast, so I rarely get to see them at all, let alone around the holidays.
Cindy and I decided back in January that this was going to be the year for me to see my family during the holidays, and the trip to California's North Coast was the best we could do there, considering that my sister works retail (she's responsible for everything on the floor except women's clothing at an Old Navy store) and has been in the throes of Black Friday preparations since dropping us off at the airport almost two weeks ago.
This was also the first time that I'd seen my sister since she had broken her back during a terrible motorcycle accident that nearly killed her over five years ago, so I was especially grateful to see her alive, happy and was able to hug her each and every morning we spent together.
So with that in mind, below are the images and memories from that trip that I'll be thinking about and treasuring today while taking time to be thankful that I have:
- A loving wife
- A job that keeps the bills paid
- A warm home
- Healthy food
- Family
