Straight from the horse's mouth, the official America's Cup web site...
With the boat on its side, the sea conditions quickly inflicted damage on the wing. The boat was pulled out to sea by the strong current, and as darkness fell, the team was still working to secure the catamaran platform and bring it back to base. The wing is destroyed.

No word yet on how much of the boat was actually salvaged, though the remains were finally tied up at the pier late last night.

But wait!  There's more!

This is the America's Cup, folks.  It's the bleeding edge of sailboat racing.  It's the place where the boats are pushed to their limits and beyond to win.  This isn't the first AC boat to capsize, suffer damage or outright sink -- and it won't be the last.  The following video is for the newer AC fans that have never seen catastrophic failure occur with one of the big boats while racing and is from an entry I posted almost two years ago...

I remember watching this in disbelief back in 1995, during the America's Cup challenger races.  It's taken me a long time to find this, but here you go - from a French website I can't even pronounce.
